Multicultural Arts Festival: Linking Cultures and Generations through Artistic Expression
Changing Worlds will host its first ever Multicultural Arts Festival at the School of the Art Institute. The event serves to provide youth, adults and families with access to hands on art making workshops and art performances.
Families from all around Chicago will engage in fun, creative hands-on multicultural art activities, dance and drama workshops.
A time for children and adults from various communities to share in creative visual art, drama and dance experiences that honor everyone’s heritage and focus on peace and cultural understanding
When: Saturday, January 21st, 2012, 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Where: Located at School of the Art Institute, 280 S. Columbus
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m.
Free
Who: Appropriate for youth, adults and families in general. For all ages (children under 18 must be with adults)
Hands on art making workshops in the visual arts, dance and drama
Storytelling performance
Schedule:
10:00 - 1:00 – Visual art, drama and dance workshops, ongoing hands-on visual art and map activities and snacks
Map and story activity - Thumb print on map; draw picture or write a story to show your family’s immigration or migration history. Place stories and pictures around the map.
Hands of Peace Activity– Participants write and draw images of their own ideas about peace on paper hands. Each hand connected to others as together we build a “Hand of Peace’ collage.
1:00 - 2:00 p.m. – A closing program for everyone in the auditorium with a storyteller and dance performances (with audience participation)

University of Chicago Raas Team Dandiya-Raas is an energetic and lively dance form from the Indian state of Gujarat.
